I januari 1997 skrev Jennifer Lofgren till Nättidningen RÖTTER och berättade om boken: I have recently finished putting together a book based on the autobiography of Anders Persson Lofgren, who joined the Mormon church and immigrated to the United States from Sweden in 1862. His autobiography was translated by Carl-Erik Johansson, author of Cradeled in Sweden, in the late 1940s. Finally, his story is in print and available for his descendants (and any other interested parties). According to Carl_Erik, Anders' story is one of the most explicit records of a Swedish working-class family making such a move. In 1969, Alf Aberg printed highlights of the story in a local Swedish newspaper and an expanded version ended up in a Swedish school book, Var Svenska Historia, also by Alf Aberg. The book that I have been working on is called A Simple Faith. It contains Anders' autobiography, the story which was retold in Sweden, chapters on sailing across the seas, traveling across the plains (in the U.S.), making a new life in the U.S., chapters on Anders' children, descendancy charts to three generations, and copies of original Swedish parish records, and pictures. This project was undertaken to get this information out to family members. However, we also want this book to be available to anyone else who might be interested in it as a historical piece. I would love to receive ideas for contacts of organizations or people who would appreciate this book. It is a fascinating story of a boy who grew up in poverty in Sweden but eventually became an uncommon, common man.
